A Slow Summer

I think I’ve had a pretty slow summer this year, and honestly, it’s been lovely.

Things have been a little quieter on the Katsillustration front, which has given me some much-needed space to step back from the day-to-day and think about what I want to do next.

I’m usually focused on the next product, collection or deadline, so it’s been nice to have some breathing space to make notes, come up with ideas and think about where I’d like to take Katsillustration over the next year.

I’ve also been doing a bit more painting, playing around with food, flowers and table scenes. I have enjoyed experimenting with colour and composition without worrying about whether anything needs to become a product.

We also escaped to Scotland for a few days, staying in a remote woodland cabin surrounded by trees. Lots of walking, good food and absolutely nowhere we needed to be. It was exactly what I needed to properly switch off.

Now September is creeping up and I can feel things starting to pick up again. There are new designs to finish, Christmas to get stuck into (yes, I know it’s still August!) and plenty of ideas from the summer that I’m excited to start bringing to life.

But for now, I’m enjoying these last few weeks of a slower summer. A few more slow mornings, walks in the sunshine, meals outside and time to enjoy the last of the summer.

Then it’s back to work. ☀️
