For many of us September means back to school, back to work or some kind of routine. After a slow summer, I am happy to be back in the studio getting my products prepared for a busy season ahead. While I have been creative this year, designing new products and patterns, I have struggled a bit with time and how to incorporate having an art practice into my weekly routine. I have made a point this month of clearing my desk on a Tuesday evening and spending Wednesday mornings sketching, drawing and painting.
During this precious time I have been working on a series of art exploring the topics of grief, abandonment, childhood and aging while the rest of the world keeps turning. Finding inspiration in deserted buildings, abandoned theme parks and empty fairground rides and incorporating bright colours inspired by childhood toys. I don't have any finished work yet but I'm excited by the process of weekly art sessions and keeping a sketchbook again.
Stay tuned for more art!
