More Reasons to Celebrate
I’ve been doing quite a lot of drawing lately, and my desk has slowly become covered in sketches, colour swatches and ideas for a whole new batch of Katsillustration cards.
I’ve been wanting to expand my card collections for a while, particularly for some of those occasions where it can be surprisingly difficult to find something that feels a bit more fun, colourful and unexpected.
So, over the last few weeks, I’ve been working on lots of new designs. There are new ideas for new babies, weddings, anniversaries, get well soon, congratulations, milestone birthdays and spring occasions, along with plenty of other little ideas that have been making their way from my sketchbook onto my desk.
Celebrating the big birthdays
One of the collections I’ve been particularly excited about is a new range of milestone birthday cards.
The starting point for these was textiles. I’ve always loved the colour, texture and slightly unexpected combinations you find in fabrics, and I wanted to bring some of that feeling into the cards. I’ve been particularly looking at things like Harris Tweed, with its wonderful woven textures, checks and combinations of colour.
That became the starting point for a collection of bold, colourful patterns, with each milestone getting its own combination of shapes, colours and textures.
There are geometric shapes, checks, stripes, circles and plenty of colour, all sitting behind a big, bold number.
I love how different each one feels, while still looking like they belong together as a collection.
And yes, there are quite a few numbers…
More than just birthdays
Alongside the milestone cards, I’ve been expanding some of the other occasions too.
There are ideas for weddings, anniversaries, new babies, Mother's Day, Father's Day, sympathy, get well soon, congratulations and best of luck, plus plenty more.
I'm also making some changes to the way the cards are organised on my website.
As the collection has grown, I've been wanting to make it easier to browse, so I'm expanding the collections so you can shop by occasion and recipient — things like Anniversary, Birthday by recipient, Birthday by age, New Baby, Wedding and Engagement and more.
Hopefully, this will make it much easier to find your way around the ever-growing card section!
The new celebration cards will be available to buy for retailers and wholesale customers from November, before making their way onto the Katsillustration website in early 2027.
